  2. Palazzo Comunale (Town Hall)
Visit the Palazzo Comunale, a beautiful medieval building that dates back to the 12th century. It has been the seat of local government for centuries and represents the civic heart of the town. After exploring the piazza, head to the MAEC Museum, located in the Palazzo Casali. This museum offers a fascinating look into Cortona’s rich Etruscan history, as well as Roman, Medieval, and Renaissance periods. Key highlights include ancient Etruscan artifacts, funerary urns, and medieval artworks. It’s a must-visit for history enthusiasts.

  4. Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta

Mid-Morning: Scenic Views and Historical Landmarks

  1. Church of San Francesco
After the cathedral, head to the nearby Church of San Francesco, one of the most important religious sites in Cortona. Built in the 13th century, it is dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi. Inside, you’ll find relics of the saint, including his tunic and personal belongings. The architecture of the church is simple but carries a deep spiritual significance.

  2. Fortezza Medicea (Medici Fortress)

You can explore the monastery, the small chapels, and the simple living quarters used by the friars.

  2. Basilica di Santa Margherita
Head back to the town to visit the Basilica di Santa Margherita, dedicated to Cortona’s patron saint, Santa Margherita.
